You know there was color on the planet before the 1960s — the world wasn’t like when Gilligan’s Island suddenly switched from black & white to color — but seeing it somehow almost bends your brain.
Here are a whole bunch of color photographs of NYC in the 1940s.
The added spectrum makes it like a movie. Or yesterday. Faker and realer, simultaneously.
As for a glimpse of today, Humans of New York. It’s a huge project of street portraits plotted on a map. The creativity of humans will never cease to delight, to teach, to bring us, to us.
Yes, the internet pleases me, but what a magical time we live in — where anyone can see the past and the present, all in one place.

Indeed, indeed.

West Side Redemption

Living not even a block from the Hudson River* during the winter months was stupidly harsh. I was once knocked back onto my heels, rocking, by a wind so mighty that women braced their children.

“In my heart of hearts, I believe her that the officers did it,” juror Melinda Hernandez says. Not to be outdone, another female juror says she’s certain they were guilty.

“[Kenneth Moreno] raped her,” the unidentified female juror tells DNAinfo. “There is no doubt in my mind.”

One Trick

One trick to New York is loving the neighborhood where you live. If you don’t, get out, whether you have to move, take the train or walk until your heels bleed.
