The girl to my right at the restaurant tonight was doing vodka shots and chasing them with champagne. I just kept thinking about her crippling hangover and how we should totally hang out sometime.

It’s something to feel you must escape from a place everyone tells you they’re dying to be.

Near Miss: Weekend Awaiting a Hurricane
This weekend was my first hurricane. I grew up in Tennessee, which is not tornado alley, but that Southern state gets its fair share of tornadoes. Those I’ve dealt with before. In fact, tornado warnings and watches were so commonplace, I joke that I spent half my childhood in the basement. Tornados are fast and unpredictable and they jump around. One minute it’s on Bearwallow Road,...

Streams of the same shade of deep yellow. Taxi, taxi, taxi, school bus, taxi, taxi, school bus, school bus, taxi, taxi. If you squint it’s a shimmering yellow river.

About eighty Navy men and women, dressed in their Navy whites, came marching down 42nd Street to the piers singing a chant about steamrolling.  It’s all crisp and windy and lovely down here by the water—I’m even wearing long sleeves—and the soldiers were all singing through their smiles.

I've decided to stay in New York
okayteresa: Moving back home would be the easy way out. That’s the safe, comforting choice. Also. Give up NYU? That would make me an idiot and I’m a lot of things, but not that. The other day my sister asked me to move home because she misses me. We never talk like this to one another. So, I’m staying put but dang ~*~~*~*residual childhood Catholic guilt~*~*~~* She has NYU.
