Right now, in this line, I am falling in love with a Japanese girl, with her perfect, short floppy haircut and her Gucci sunglasses in the shade and her big upper lip and her scarf over skinny legs, and her ring-a-ling laugh. I don’t understand a word she is saying.

Persistence
I’m at this lovely little public space right outside my apartment where they offer free wi-fi and the river offers a sweet breeze. There is a dog run and lounge chairs made of stone and tables for computing with soft drinks and a playground. Today the playground is teeming with kids of all sizes.  Young boys are stealthily sneaking up on pigeons to shoot them with a weak spray from a water...

– 33 Reasons We Can’t Help Loving Summer in the City As a summerphile, I enjoyed this.  (via doree) I try to make it a habit to walk for blocks purposelessly and notice things.  It may not make me a better person but it makes me happy.  There’s always so much on display to see.  (See, e.g., why...

CityStories: The Beauty of New York →
citystories: Franz said, “Beauty in the European sense has always had a premeditated quality to it.  We’ve always had an aesthetic intention and a long-range plan.  That’s what enabled Western man to spend decades building a Gothic cathedral or a Renaissance piazza.  The beauty of New York rests on a complete different base.  It’s unintentional.  It arose independent of human design, like a...

Why, who makes much of a miracle? As to me I know of nothing else but miracles, Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan, Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky, Or wade with naked feet along the beach just in the edge of the water, Or stand under trees in the woods, Or talk by day with any one I love, or sleep in the bed at night with any one I love, Or sit at table at...

Sunday Funday
This morning I awoke after having a real bummer of a Saturday, and decided to make this day my bitch. I suited up and headed for the Hudson River Park for a quick run. The sun was not yet out, and it wasn’t hot, and the run was easy.  At Hudson River Park I saw a decrepit old ferris wheel, some neato fountains and a naval ship with military planes parked on top. And there were people in...
